Massachusetts-based Oasys Water has announced that it has completed a significant Series B financing round, which included a syndicate of strategic and existing investors led by Woteer, a Chinese EPC company specializing in industrial water and wastewater systems.

Woteer has exclusive use of Oasys’ Membrane Brine Concentrator (MBC) technology—a forward osmosis (FO) process that employs a unique draw solution recovery system—in China for industrial desalination and wastewater treatment applications in the power, coal, chemical, refining and metals and mining industries.

According to Oasys’ Nathan Hancock, China has nearly 5,000 power plants, many of which are outfitted with wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems and will require ZLD systems over the next five years. The MBC technology meets the performance of conventional brine concentration systems at a lower capital cost while operating solely on steam.

Dr Hancock will be giving a presentation on the MBC technology’s recent success in the oil and gas industry at the IDA World Congress in Tianjin, later today (Thursday).
