A 43,200 m3/d (11.4 MGD) SWRO plant located in Punta Padrones, Chile, which was designed and furnished by Spain’s aqualia, has been commissioned. The plant will deliver desalted seawater to Freeport-McMoRan’s Minera Candelaria copper mine, located approximately 80km (50 mi) away. The $270 million EPC project includes DAF and UF pretreatment. Hatch served as owner’s engineer on the project.
