Sixteen firms are understood to have submitted responses to the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority’s (GBRA) request for quotations for a study to assess the feasibility of developing a regional seawater desalination project in Texas.

The study will consider a project with an initial desal production capacity of 25 MGD (94,625 m3/d), which could be expanded to 250 MGD (946,252 m3/d). The project includes the option of providing a co-located power generation facility capable of initially producing 500 MW of generating capacity, with an ultimate capacity of 3,000 MW. Up to five sites are to be evaluated.

Over the next month, GBRA officials are expected to review the submissions and develop a shortlist of applicants for further consideration.
