Tom Pankratz – Tom Pankratz

Tom Pankratz is editor of GWI’s weekly Water Desalination Report and has been involved in the desal industry since 1979. He has participated in the development of some of the world’s largest and most technically complex desal projects, and has been co-chairman of the WHO desalination technology committee, a member of MEDRC’s research advisory committee and a past member of the National Academy of Sciences desalination roadmap review committee.

Through his career, his focus has shifted from seawater intakes to RO systems to pretreatment systems to thermal systems, and back to RO, and he has completed expat assignments in Dubai and Paris. He is based in Houston, Texas.

He is a former CH2M Hill Vice President, was director of corporate projects for USFilter/Veolia Water and is an Aqua-Chem alum. He took over as WDR’s editor in 2005, when GWI acquired the publication from Dick Smith, its founding editor.

Tom is a prime example of a desalter; multi-disciplinary, passionate, analytical and ruthless enough to shred the hopes of the ill-prepared engineer or inventor with flair... which he will do, but more concisely than is typically possible.
