Floyd joined Ionics as a chemical engineer in 1967 and over 20 years oversaw the company's growth to a global force.
He guided the formation of the International Desalination Association in 1985 out of the International Desalination and Environmental Association and the National Water Supply Improvement Association as president of the NWSIA and the new IDA.
Floyd became vice-president of Reliable Water in 1987, and was co-publisher of the International Desalination & Water Reuse Quarterly from its founding in 1991 until 1994. He was inducted into the American Desalting Association (now AMTA) Hall of Fame in 1996, alongside Dick Smith.
