Don Bray
CEO, Desal Systems
Patented the multi-leaf spiral-wound element in 1965, releasing RO on the world.
Don trained in chemical engineering, then in the very new field of nuclear reactors. At General Atomics, he became part of the Reverse Osmosis General Atomics (ROGA) unit, focusing on developing desalination technology. While there, he invented the multi-leaf spiral wound membrane element, basis of today's spiral wound element. Don continued to pioneer new construction techniques and innovative membranes throughout his career.
In 1966, he left ROGA and founded DSI, specialising in commercial and industrial membranes, and Nimbus Water Systems, producing home reverse osmosis equipment. Don was known as a mentor to many future reverse osmosis scientists and engineers.
As well as firing the starting pistol for the RO race, Don was a keen marathon runner in his spare time.
